Surfears
Surfears earplugs
Surfears are earplugs developed specifically for watersports: they keep water and cold out while letting sound through, so you hear your surroundings and can talk.
Why protect your ears
Repeated exposure to cold water and wind leads to surfer\u0027s ear (exostosis) — bony growth of the ear canal that only surgery can fix. Middle-ear infections are common among kiters who ride year-round.
When to wear them
- In cold water and on windy days.
- If you have already had an ear infection.
- When you crash a lot — that is, while learning tricks.
Care
Rinse with fresh water after use and let dry. Replace the meshes per the manufacturer\u0027s instructions. Also see helmets and wetsuits for cold days.
